Bison Moon Ultra is an online slot, developed by Northern Lights Gaming, powered by Microgaming online casinos, released in late October 2023.

The slot has a Wild Life theme and is an upgrade to the original Bison Moon Slot, which was released 9 months earlier in January.

Bison Moon Ultra online slot has the standard 5×3 gameboard, consisting of 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 fixed paylines.

The slot’s RTP is 96.13%, the hit rate is 30.30% and its volatility is set to HIGH.

However the slot has a booster feature which changes the RTP to 96.56% and the hit rate to 29.79%.

The minimum bet per spins starts from 0.10$, while the maximum bet reaches 20.00$, making the slot ideal for those players seeking low wagering games.

Northern Lights Gaming has always had a great choice of bet menu, allowing us to select a bet preset, adjust the bet with + and – buttons or hit the min. bet/max. bet buttons.

The Autoplay menu is located on the top right, allowing players to set up to a 100 automatic spins.

The quick spins and sound options are on the gameboard itself, with an easy to see indication if they are turned on or off.

Unfortunately the sound and music are bundled up in this slot, so you can only mute it and can’t turn off each one individually.

Slot Features

• Wilds: The Wild symbol is the Bison symbol in this slot, which substitutes for everything but Link&Win symbols and scatters.

The wilds can appear stacked on the reels and you would see them quote often.

• Win Booster™: The Win Booster option is available on the left side of the gameboard. It adds extra Link&Win symbols giving you a higher chance to trigger the feature, but increases your total bet by 2.5x which does not affect the payouts.

When the booster is ON, the WinBooster icon lights up, and the max bet becomes 25.00$ from 10.00$ but does not affect the payouts, as you can see from the Jackpots.

• Ultra Link&Win: Landing 6 or more Link&Win symbols triggers this feature. You start with 3 respins, all the triggering symbols locked and 3 additional rows locked as well. Landing an additional symbol resets the respins back to 3, and moves you closer to unlocking the additional rows. The base gameboard for this feature starts 5×3, with a chance to get up to 5×7.

Our first trigger gave us a total of 65x payout, but we never managed to unlock any of the extra rows as we only landed a single symbol in those 3 wins. The Link&Win symbols can be cash prizes or jackpots, varying from Mini 50x, Minor 150x, Major 750x and MEGA 10,000x. To get the mega you would need to fill all 35 positions. This is essentially the difference between this slot and the regular Bison Moon Slot released in January.

• Bison Stampede: This feature can randomly trigger after each spin. Flaming bison heads will appear on the reels after the stampede. The heads reveal symbols and can award any wins. Link&Win symbols can be revealed during this feature, as well as scatters.

When the feature is about to trigger, it shakes the whole gameboard, but a lot of the times it’s a false alarm, and the feature actually does not trigger. It took us close to 300 spins to actually see this trigger, and at the end it gave us 3 burning heads with wild symbols and that was it. This feature is only present in the Ultra version of the game, and it’s something the original did not have.

• Free Spins: Landing 3 scatter symbols triggers 10 free spins. During the free spins, reels 2,3 and 4 are combined into a jumbo symbol. Landing a scatter in the jumbo position awards an additional 10 free spins. The jumbo symbol is 3×3 and if a Link&Win symbol lands it counts as 9 symbols.

During our trigger we did not manage to land anything special or big, which resulted only in a 12x payout.

Verdict

The Bison Moon Ultra Slot, comes 9 months later after the original, brining us one additional feature and an improved Link&Win with higher MEGA jackpot.

However the question remains, whether we needed a whole new slot for it, as the stampede features does not trigger that often, and the MEGA Jackpot requires to fill in 35 position.

Overall the slot feels the same, with the necessity to have WinBooster™ turned out, or you would see the Link&Win feature, like once every a few hundred spins, if that.

When the original released, this was one of the most played slots on Yukon Gold Casino, so we are curious to see how this one would turn out.
