In this pirate themed game, the players gets to spin the reels, hunting for the Kraken’s treasure, with the max prize of up to 11,851x.
The slot is already in the Yukon Gold Casino’s library next to hundreds of officially released slots, and dozen exclusive and yet unreleased ones.
Slot Design
Black Sails: Kraken’s Hoard has the standard 5×3 gameboard with 5 reels, 3 rows and 40 fixed paylines.
The slot’s RTP is 96.14%, the volatility is MEDIUM and the hit rate is 24.58%.
The bet menu needs a bit of work, with the minimum bet starting from 0.20$, while the maximum bet reaches 25.00$, but not all bets are listed.
We prefer menus where all the wagers are available so the player can select their desired bet with a single click, something a lot of studios already offer.
The settings menu on the other side, is an example of what every settings menu should be out there. It has 3 different options for sounds, it has volume sliders, it has two types of spins, quick spins turbo spins and a mute option for big wins.
Overall the UI looks very similar to other Infinity Dragon Slots, but graphics and animations are well done and all gameboard elements are aesthetically pleasing.
Slot Features
- Wilds: The Kraken is the Wild in this slot, which can land on any reel and substitute for all symbols but kraken dabloons and scatters.
When the symbol lands it automatically unlocks the wild reel which adds additional symbols boosting your chances for a big win. Once unlocked these reels remain active and will aid you during base game. We found them quite helpful as some of the winnings were above 30x.
- Bonus Surge: When you land 2 different colored scatters this feature activates. This gives a guaranteed win on the Link&Win feature, started from 20x, with the chance to increase up to 200x.
This trigger we are guaranteed a 81x win with 2 features activated: Collect symbols and Expanded reels. Once the Link&Win is over the bonus surge resets back to 20x.
- Sunken Jackpot Wheel: There are 4 different jackpots in this slot: Mini 5x, Minor 10x Maxi 100x, and Major 10,000x. During Bonus Surge special symbols are added to the reels which can trigger the wheel.
Only 3 of the 4 jackpots are available here, where the last one of 10,000x is awarded when all positions are filled on the gameboard. This is pretty standard for this type of slots.
- Link&Win with Treasure Chests: The Kraken dabloons are collected in one of the 4 chests above the board, and each of them has a chance to trigger the Link&Win win a perk. There are a total of 4 perks, Boost which randomly boosts random cash values for a random amount; Multi which creates multiplier zones which if they get filled apply the corresponding multiplier, Expand which expand the gameboard to 5×5 and Collect which adds a Ship collect symbol, collecting all landed prizes into a single one.
The boost feature usually yields anywhere from 20x to 40x for the majority of the time. We found this to be one of the weakest perks.
The reel expand perk of the feature adds 2 additional rows and makes the board 5×5. While this gives you more spots to land prizes we felt it that it’s one of the weaker features.
The collect feature is active here as well as the multipliers which will be applied if the zone is filled with prizes. Overall all 4 perks were active here, but our total payout was only 70x, and the bonus surge wasn’t active.
- Buy Feature: If the player simply wishes to buy the Link&Win feature with all active perks they can do so.
The cost of it is 89.6x and you cannot choose less than 4 features which is a shame, as some people would prefer 2 or 3.
Verdict
Is Black Sails: Kraken’s Hoard worth your time? Kind of, if you are not sick of that type of slots.
Feels like most of these slots are identical these days offering nothing new or unique, just same old same old.
What we have here is a Link&Win feature with 4 different perks that you’ve seen in many other slots, a Bonus Surge feature for a guaranteed minimum win, 4 different jackpots and wild reels during base games.
Yes plenty of features, medium volatility which is nice, jackpots and a max win of 11,851x but nothing you haven’t seen before.
At some point, if you spend a lot of time on the slots, all of these start to blend in, unless they have something to standout.
