September 2016’s Jungle Jim: El Dorado was released more than three years before the Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx slot was brought out as a sequel in November 2019.

This time, however, Microgaming passed the creative process over to partner developer Stormcraft Studios.

Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx online slot has a slightly bigger 5×4 gameboard, consisting of 5 reels, 4 rows and 35 paylines, which after roll 3+ become 50, as well as during the whole free spins mode.

The slot’s RTP is 96.10% and its variance is set to MEDIUM.

With the Win Booster feature, the RTP goes up to 96.30%, but the cost of the total bet is increased by 4x, which is a huge downside.

The minimum bet per spin starts from 0.10$, while the maximum bet reaches 40.00$, making this slot ideal for a wide range of players.

The bet menu has preset bets, a max bet button and two sliders allowing players to adjust their bet without very much clicking.

The gameboard contains a quick spin tab, and an autoplay feature which also has win/loss limits.

You can adjust the wager from here as well, via the slider that says Total Bet.

The UI and symbols are simplistic, but the animations of Jungle Jim are nice, and the little intros in-between the features are well done.

Slot Features

• Expansion to 50 paylines: occurs on stage four of the Multiplier Trail, while also opening another row of symbols.

The top rocks fall and a new row shows up as well. This is available by default during free spins.

• Rolling Reels and Multiplier trail: This feature is available through the whole game, with boosted values during free spins. Whenever there’s a winning combination, the winning symbols are removed and new ones fall down on their place. The multiplier is set to 2x. The next consecutive win raises it to 3x, then 4x, 5x and 10x is the max.

A player can land some big wins on a single spin if the multiplier hits 10x, just like us here.

• Wilds: Jungle Jim Wilds are included to substitute for missing symbols, but are only able to appear on the second, third, fourth, and fifth reels.

• Second Chance Respin: A feature where a re-spin is applied if no wins occur for three consecutive spins.

This happens often enough, and thank god it was labeled or else we wouldn’t be able to see when it happens.

• Scatters: These symbols pay out wherever they appear, so long as there’s a winning payline at the same time.

• Free Spins: Three-plus scatters can land to credit 12 free spins. This also causes the Multiplier Trail to increase and become 2x, 3x, 4x, 8x, 12x, and 20x.

During the feature we never made it past the 8x multiplier, but the overall win was somewhat decent of around 56x.

• Sphinx Symbols: Appear on the third reel and can increase the starting value of the Multiplier Reel or add another free spin.

This can occur several times, but still does not guarantee any higher payouts.

• Win Booster: On the left side of the gameboard, a player can choose to activate this feature, raising the total bet by 4x, but also increasing the trigger chance for free spins.

The maximum bet has changed to 1560x, as the increased total bet does not change any of the winnings. During our testing we did not find this feature useful because of the huge cost increase.

Verdict

Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx is a decent sequel to the original slot, offering good features, much better symbols and animations, and a max win of up to 6250x.

The rolling reels and multiplier trail can net extremely good payouts on a single spin, while the free spins boost the trail values further for even bigger wins.

One thing we were not found of is the Win Booster, which yes increased the free spins trigger chances, but at a huge cost of 4x the total bet.
