Slot Design
Unusual Suspects online slot has a 5×4 gameboard, that looks tiny compared to most other slots, consisting of 5 reels, 4 rows and 20 fixed paylines.
The slot’s RTP is 96.05% and its variance is set to MEDIUM.
The RTP of the slot jumps up to 96.10% if the buy or gamble feature is used, but the difference is so miniscule that it’s barely worth mentioning.
The minimum bet per spin is 0.10$, while the maximum bet per spin reaches 20.00$, making this slot perfect for players looking for low wagering slots.
The bet menu layout is the usual one (no pun intended) that Northern Lights Gaming uses for their slots, allowing the players to hit the min or max bet buttons, or choose a bet preset.
The slot has a minimalistic view, which probably will appeal to mobile users, but the symbols still look sharp and the animations nice in desktop view.
There are no options in the top right menu, everything is set from the gameboard directly from the Autospin feature, to Quick Spins and Sound.
The sound and music are bundled up, so you can’t have one or the other, but either sound plus music or no sound at all.
The buy feature on the left allows us to buy free spins, the gamble feature allows us to gamble for them.
There’s a Free Spin boost bar on top of the gameboard, which if filled will give the player an unlocked Big Boss during free spins adding extra spins and multipliers.
Slot Features
- Wilds: The Wilds in this online slot are different kinds and substitute for all symbols but scatters and detective symbols. The Golden Wilds spawn more Wilds or another Golden Wild symbol.
While the Wilds show up very often, nearly every spin, the Golden Wilds are rare, and you will probably see them once every 30-40 spins.
- Wild Sticky Frame: Every Wild symbol that lands on the gameboard leaves a 1x sticky frame, which can go up to 5x if a Wild lands in that frame and stacks.
The sticky frames persist until a Detective Symbol shows up. During your spins you will have plenty of sticky frames sitting around.
- Detective Symbol: When the detective symbol lands, it populates all sticky frames with Wilds and all multipliers on a win line are applied to that win line during the bonus.
We already had a x3 and a x4 frame when the detective landed and the total payout for the win was 31x the bet. This is during base game, as the frame will persist during free spins and will remain for the whole duration of the feature.
- Free Spins Booster: Landing 2 scatters on the gameboard adds a progress to the Free Spins Booster bar. Collecting 50 tokens will unlock Big Boss-1 bonus during free spins. If the scatters land on the top 3 rows they will trigger Nudging Respins, where the reels with scatters will be held while the rest respin and scatters will nudge down 1 row per respin, until they disappear. During the respins progress is added to the booster bar.
We triggered the respins on rows 1 and 2, which gave us 3 respins which all added to the progress of the bar.
- Big Boss Free Spins: Landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters grants the player 10, 15 or 20 free spins. There’s a bonus trail during the Free Spins where you can see each detective position and Big Bosses.
We had already unlocked Big Boss-1 which gave us an extra 5 free spins and upped the win multiplier to 2x. After two detective symbols, the 3rd one would award us Big Boss-2 with 5 additional free spins and a 3x multiplier, then 3 more Detective symbols and 5 extra free spins with 5x multiplier and the last boss awards another 5 free spins and 10x multiplier.

During our testing we only managed to get to Big Boss-2 with a 3x multiplier and had a bunch of sticky frames which resulted in a roughly 50x payout.
- Buy/Gamble Feature: If the player decides they want to simply buy the free spins or gamble for them, they can do so for a 38.6x cost, or gamble from 10% to 90% for 3.86% per every 10.00%.
While testing this feature, we found out that it does not make up the money spent more often than not.
Keep in mind that whenever you spin the wheel to gamble it does not have a track history, so your chance is always 30.00%. We tested this and from the 6 tries we did not land the green zone once. Feels like too much of a gamble to waste money here.
Verdict
Unusual Suspects is a brand new slot that will be officially out in September 2023, but right now those who want to play it can do so in Yukon Gold Casino.
The slot offers plenty of features, a variation of Wilds, Wild Sticky frames, win multipliers up to 5x, free spins, bonus free spins and a max prize up to 8,000x.
This is definitely one of the more interesting new releases for the summer, and we definitely recommend players to try it now, before its official release.
