Reign of Fire is an online slot, developed by Hammertime Games, powered by Microgaming online casinos, scheduled to be released on June 24th 2024.

The slot has this fiery/stone/Greek mythology theme where the players will get to spin the reels, bonus wheels and get roaming wilds with max prize up to 2,500x, at least that’s what’s shown.

Reign of Fire has the standard size 5×3 gameboard, with 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 fixed paylines.

The slot’s RTP is 96.01%, the volatility is set to MEDIUM and its hit rate is 28.54%.

The minimum bet per spin starts from 0.20$, while the maximum bet per spin reaches 40.00$, with a max prize displayed 2,500x the bet, as we can’t see anything else mentioned anywhere.

Hammertime Games continues to not have a bet menu, but rather a button where you can adjust your bet, requiring a lot of clicking when might as well be a menu where all wagers are displayed and can be chosen with a simple press of a button.

It’s actually odd, as their Pizza Fiesta Slot, has something similar already which was not used in this slot.

Their settings menu however is pretty decent allowing players to mute all sounds or just the music or just the sounds in addition to a few other perks.

The quick spins button is on the gameboard at the bottom right, as well as the autoplay button.

In terms of visual, we find the slot quite stiff with animations being from at least a decade or two ago, but we are not sure if this was intentional given the theme of the slot.

The UI remains the same from previous slots but we hope the studio polishes it a bit as a very few QoL are needed to become the perfect one.

Slot Features

• Wild Rewards: Landing at least one wild rewards symbol on each reel will trigger the wild rewards feature. All wild rewards and wild symbols will reveal a cash prize ranging from 0.2x to 50x the bet.

We saw this feature often enough in both base game and free spins, and it does give a substantial return for a single spin. It does trigger quite easily during free spins because of the guaranteed wilds.

• Wheel Bonus: A wheel bonus symbol may randomly appear on any of the symbols except the scatter, wild and prize symbols. When collected the symbol can randomly trigger this feature which will allow you to spin the wheel for a top tier prize of 2,500x.

We were close to the top tier prize but the wheel did not have enough momentum to go over. At the end we were happy with the 20x as this was our first trigger which came only 30 spins after we started testing. However this showed up to be a very rare feature as we only saw it once after 400 spins.

• Roaming Wilds Trail: Whenever you land 2 scatters, the roaming wilds trail will move up with 1 position. Every 5 positions, the roaming wilds will increase by 1. The trail can only accumulate during base game and the maximum number of roaming wilds is 9. The roaming wilds are available only in free spins and will only reset when you have a free spins feature with 9 roaming wilds. When this feature resets, it will reset randomly to 2, 3 or 4.

The trail moves fairly slow and after we got our initial 2 roaming wilds we were stuck on it for many many triggers. Since this trail can only increase during base game, you don’t want to trigger free spins that quickly and have only one roaming wild. After spinning for a few hours we noticed that the lower the roaming wilds the more often the free spins trigger and the higher they’ve got the less we saw them.

After around 1500 spins we managed to max out the trail and were waiting for that one special free spins trigger.

• Free Spins: Landing 3 or more scatters will trigger 8 free spins. Landing 3 or more scatters within the free spins will trigger 8 additional free spins. During the free spins the roaming wilds will appear and will substitute for all symbols but scatter and prize money symbols. On the very first spin the roaming wilds will appear on reels 2-5, but on every subsequent free spin, they can move to random positions again on reels 2-5.

The free spins trigger quite often, though the winnings for us varied from 6x to 40x, nothing bigger. We were still on 2 roaming wilds however and we expect with more roaming wilds, the winnings would go up.

After several hours of spinning we did get that max trigger and indeed the reels were filled with roaming wilds.

Our total payout for that trigger was 153.1x which was great, if we didn’t have to wait several thousand spins and hours to get it.

• Wilds: The Wild in this slot is the girl with fiery hair symbol which lands only on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and will substitute for all symbols but scatter, wheel and prize symbols.

These show a lot during base game, but we did not see any massive winnings even though we had at times 8-9 of them. The money on this slot is in the roaming wilds and the wild rewards triggers.

Verdict

Reign of Fire has the idea to be that hot fiery slot that triggers tons of features to keep you entertained.

In reality it’s like that until your trail count goes above 3 in which case the triggers become very infrequent and everything depends on Wild Rewards.

After a while that gets boring too, but we kept spinning and spinning just to see how long it takes to trigger free spins with max reward and the result was several hours and thousands of spins for us.

Overall the graphics are not great, the animations as well, the triggers are fine with small amount of roaming wilds but almost cease to exist at the higher numbers.

The bonus wheel shows up once every 200-300 spins but we never managed to land anything bigger than 20x there.

While the slot is more than a month away from an official release it’s currently available on Yukon Gold Casino, under the Early Release section.

We’d recommend registering there but for the many other Early Releases and not this one particularly as we did not enjoy this slot.
